Inventory description: Letter of 17 Oct 1902 from B Viljoen, late Assistant Commandant General, Transvaal Burgher Forces, to Major Stapleton Lynch Cotton, formerly of the King’s Liverpool Regiment; Viljoen sympathises with Cotton’s fate, discharged from the Army as a result of the British defeat at Helvetia, 29 Dec 1900, and allows Cotton to cite in his defence Viljoen’s opinion that Cotton was not to blame; Viljoen led Boer forces in the battle.
