Inventory description: 26 ms letters written by Sergeant Eric Dawson, ME School of Education, Army Education Corps, to his mother, August - December 1943, covering camp and family news, his six week tour of the Middle East, including Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Aleppo, excitement at the news from Italy (September 1943), his transfer to the Education Centre and promotion, news of conditions on the Home Front, work creating a current affairs room for the Church of Scotland canteen, convalescence from jaundice at No 5 Convalescent Depot, camp concerts, disbandment of the School of Education, exhibition of drawings in Cairo, and Christmas celebrations. Eric Dawson served in North Africa, Syria, Palestine and the Lebanon, 1940-1945 with 2nd Bn Rifle Brigade, Royal Engineers and the Army Educational Corps; associated with World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943).
