Description
Fork, 1824-1874. Silver, marked JPGP for Josiah Piercy, George Piercy and hallmarked London, 1816-1817. Owned by Sir Charles McCarthy and taken from his baggage after his defeat in 1824, 1st Ashanti War (1823-1825). Recovered during the 3rd Ashanti War (1873-1874). Inscribed with text along underside of shaft. With family device at the end, underneath the handle, of a hand holding a lizard to sinister.
