Description
Spirit flask, 1879 (c). Silver plated, made by James Dixon and Sons, Sheffield, 1879 (c). Rectangular, with rounded shoulders, both sides engraved with a fruiting vine design on a cross-hatched ground. With screw-on-cap. Carried by Capt A Battye, the 2nd (Prince of Wales’s Own) Gurkha Regiment (The Sirmoor Rifles), on the march from Kabul to Kandahar during the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880).
