Manuscript letter from Cpl James Richardson, 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot, to his mother and father in Ireland from Richmond Barracks in Dublin, 5 Dec 1868. Richardson inform his parents that he arrived home safely and he is back on duty under a Colour Sergeant who is Catholic and dislikes that Richardson is Protestant. Pte Richardson was among the men killed in Maiwand, Afghanistan between 1878 and 1880. Associated with the Battle of Maiwand, 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880).
