Accession Number
NAM.1995-06-94-1
Description
Snuff box, 1836 (c). Silver, by 'I J', probably John Jones, hallmarked London 1836-1837. Presented to the Officers of the 5th Regiment of Madras Native Infantry by Col Richard Lacy Evans CB, 1836 (c). Decorated with a scene of cavalry, possibly on a battlefield, in relief on lid. With inscription on inside of lid. The relief is said to depict Arthur Wellesley, (later Duke of Wellington) at Seringapatam, 4th Mysore War (1799), but this seems unlikely from the non-specific nature of the decoration.
Events
Seringapatam, Siege of, 1799 (4th Mysore War 1799)
