Typescript transcripts of letters written to his family by Civil Surgeon Julius Bernstein, attached to Scottish Horse Imperial Yeomanry, February - November 1901.
The letters contain vivid descriptions of action against the Boers, of which Bernstein saw much whilst 'trekking' with his regiment in the Transvaal. In August he was wounded, spending three months in hospital at Pretoria, and convalescent home in Johannesburg. Also included are copies of a few letters during a visit to Germany, June 1903.
