Collection of Divisional Orders, 1899 (c)-1902 (c). Issued by Lt Gen Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton for Hamilton’s Force during the Boer War, 1900. Copies addressed to OC 9th Coy Royal Engineers, 10th Division. Collected by David Lyell, who interrupted his career as a railway engineer to act as a subaltern in the company from 1900 to 1902; he later became Chief Railway Construction Engineer to the British Army in France during World War One, holding the rank of Colonel in the Royal Engineers. The orders contain news of Boer troop movements, and general war and world news, instructions to advance for the Force, and orders relating to the supplies, cattle and transport. During the period that the orders were issued the Force moved from Lichtenberg to Koomati Poort. Associated with the Boer War (1899-1902).
