Photocopy of typescript transcript of the diary of Pte Harry Phipps, 1st Bn Border Regiment, 18 Aug 1899 to 7 Jun 1900.
Describing his voyages to and from South Africa and service there against the Boers.
He was part of Buller's force attempting to relieve Ladysmith and saw action at Colenso and the crossing of the Tugela before being wounded in the leg on the 21 Jan 1900. The remainder of his time in South Africa was spent in hospital at Pietermaritzburg and the narrative ends when he returns to England.
