Camp bed, nd. Manufactured by Wilkinson of Pall Mall. Possibly used by Lt Lucius Burston Beresford Gubbins, 13th Hussars during the Boer War. The bed is in two parts. The wooden support and a green canvas. The support is built up of eight wooden legs in pairs, aligned in cross shapes, these are connected together by ten black pieces of metal, also aligned in crosses. The green canvas has six metal poles supporting it, three along each side. Lt Gubbins served through the Boer War with the 13th Hussars and served in World War One in the Royal Marines. Wilkinson advertised this type of item immediately after the Boer War, so it is most likely that this bed was used in that war.
