Description

Parade of the Scots Fusilier Guards at Buckingham Palace, (before Her Majesty the Queen, & His Royal Highness the Prince.) on the morning of their departure for the Seat of War, March 2nd 1854. Coloured tinted lithograph by E Walker after George Housman Thomas (1824-1869), published by Paul and Dominic Colnaghi, 21 Jun 1854 Associated with the Crimean War (1854-1856). Lieutenant the Honourable Hugh Annesley described the scene thus: 'When we got in front of Buckingham Palace the Regiment halted in line, the officers came to the front, the colours were lowered, and the whole presented arms. Her Majesty, the Prince, and the Royal children, appeared on the balcony and acknowledged the salute, then the Colonel turned to the men, waved his sword, and a thousand voices gave three hearty hurrahs for their Majesties, waving their bearskin caps in the air and by every gesture manifesting the most intense enthusiasm and loyalty. Her Majesty appeared much affected, and bowed and smiled most graciously on her gallant third Regiment of Guards.'
