Tete d'Armee, or how the British Generals stormed the Great Redan. Coloured lithograph after Touchstone, published by Charles Moon and Ernest Gambart and Company, London, October 1855. Associated with the Siege of Sevastopol, Crimean War (1854-1856). This caricature depicts General Sir James Simpson, Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the East following the death of Lord Raglan, General Sir Henry David Jones, Royal Engineers, and Major-General Sir Richard Airey, Quartermaster-General. The attack on the Redan on 8 September was conducted during a high wind and the print reproduces an extract from 'The Times' ‘special’ correspondent, describing how the first subject drew his cloak up around his ears, the second was ill and lay in a litter wearing a red nightcap, whilst the third had a handkerchief tied over his cap.
