Photograph: Survivors of the 13th Regiment of Light Dragoons after the Battle of Balaklava, 1854. Photograph by Roger Fenton (1819-1869), 1855. The caption on the mount is actually incorrect as Fenton did not arrive in the Crimea until February 1855, so the suggestion that all of these men took part in the Charge of the Light Brigade is erroneous. Captain Jenyns was the most senior officer to survive the Charge from the 13th Light Dragoons. Fenton first exhibited these images in London in September 1855 - this image was number 187. Associated with the Crimean War (1854-1856). Standing according to the key on this image (l to r): Cornet Francis Levison Michael; Capt & Adj George Gardner; RSM Johnson; Lt Col Charles Edmund Doherty; Cpl Glynn; Pte Morrisey; Veterinary Surgeon Thomas John Towers; Sgt Mahoney; TSM Hunt; Pte Dearlove; Capt Soame Gambier Jenyns; Sgt Mulkay; Pte Long; TSM Lincoln [or Linkon]; Pte Gardner. Seated (l to r) Capt Percy Shawe Smith; Cornet Denzil Thomas Chamberlayne
