Description
Daguerreotype photograph: Assistant Surgeon Christopher Bakewell Bassano and family, 1850 (c). Associated with the Crimean War (1854-1856). Christopher Bakewell Bassano (1824-1856) joined the 70th (The Surrey) Regiment of Foot as an assistant surgeon on 22 Dec 1848. He was appointed a staff surgeon, 2nd class on 10 Aug 1855 whereupon he travelled to the Crimea. He died at Balaklava on 1 Feb 1856.
