Description
Fragment of envelope, 1882. Sent by Pte J McCarthy, 3rd Bn King’s Royal Rifle Corps, to Mrs McCarthy, London, England. Countersigned by Col Cromer Ashburnham, commanding 3rd Bn King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Bears a ‘British Army Post Office / Egypt’ circle date stamp, 4 October 1882 and a manuscript ‘1’ Soldier’s 1d Concession Rate single charge on front, which although not prepaid, was the only rate charged.
