Description

Iron shot, found by a member of the Green family on the battlefield at Naseby, 14 Jun 1645. Pock marked surface with one indentation. Supported on a circular black stand which bears three brass posts with ornamental pointed terminals. Note pasted to the bottom of the stand refers to the English Civil War. Associated with the English Civil War (1642-1649).

Text on note pasted to bottom of mount reads; ‘Picked up by a member of the Green family on the battlefield at Naseby on 14 June 1645. Naseby (Northamps) was a decisive victory over Charles I by the parliament army under Fairfax and Cromwell. The main body of the Royal army as commanded by Lord Astley; Prince Rupert let [sic] the right wing . Sir Marmaduke Langdale, the left and the King himself headed the body of reserve - the King fled losing his cannon, baggage and nearly 5000 prisoners. The ball weighs roughly 5.5 lbs’.
