Description

Letter, Brussels, 6 Jul 1815. 4 pages. Sent by Capt Edward Kelly, 1st Life Guards, to his wife describing the Battle of Waterloo. Capt Kelly describes his leg wound and his capture of the epaulettes of the Colonel of the French 4th Cuirassiers, he goes on to say that Lord Uxbridge has mentioned his conduct to the Duke of Wellington, and that Lord Combermere will be putting him on his staff, and although the officers and men would like to see him promoted following the death of Lt Col Samuel Ferrior, Capt James Whale will probably get the vacancy. The letter was carried by private ship and landed at Colchester, an unusual route, and therefore has the very rare oval datestamp.
