Description
Coin, 1797. One penny, Regal issue, denomination; made of bronze, inscribed on one side with the name of George III, and the other bear a very faint figure of Britannia and the date. An indentation in the coin was caused by a musket ball striking it when in the pocket of an soldier (unknown) at Waterloo, 18 June 1815. Apparently the penny had to be dug out of his thigh. Associated with the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleonic Wars, 1815.
