Description
Photocopied typescript memoirs of Ensign William Henry Hare, 51st (2nd Yorkshire, West Riding) Regiment of Foot, 1868. Describes his experiences during the Corunna Campaign, Peninsular War. Throughout the retreat they were short of food, and the number of men straggling whilst looking for food turned the movement into a disorderly rout, according to Hare. His account gives some candid insights into the condition of the army during the retreat of Corunna, that are not normally referred to in similar accounts. Associated with the Peninsular War (1808-1814).
