Description
Helmet, Light Dragoon or Tarleton pattern, Lancashire Provisional Cavalry, 1798 (c). Black leather with bearskin crest and silk pugaree. Provisional cavalry units were raised from 1796. They were raised because the Government had not raised enough cavalry with the raising of the Yeomanry from 1794. Although the men were paid and not liable for service overseas, the scheme proved unpopular and was abandoned in 1802 on the Peace of Amiens.
