Description

Word processed memoir: A few recollections of an old T Officer. Written by Col W N Davis, 5th (West Middlesex) Rifle Volunteers, and later the Finsbury Rifles. Col Davis volunteered from 1872 to 1912, and even tried to sign up once again when World War One broke out, but was considered too old. Instead he raised a volunteer company in Slough, and afterwards took over the Special Police of South Buckinghamshire Battalion which he ran for eighteen years. Col Davis' memoirs give much information about what it was like to be in the Volunteers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries including details on camps, drills and the personalities he came across.
