Description

Jambiya knife, 1914-1918. With scabbard. Green horn hilt with high, acutely curved pommel with pointed ‘barbs’. Double edged blade with angled narrow point. Believed to come from Iraq, and thought to have been worn by the Marsh Arabs of the Tigris and Euphrates, since it has their typical hilt and blade point. Belonged to Gen C M P Durnford. Probably acquired during Mespot Campaign, World War One (1914-1918).
