The Desert Song, Rifleman, Western Desert, with a portable gramophone, 1940 (c). Watercolour, pen and ink drawing signed lower right, 'Eric Dawson/ 21 March 1988', by Eric Dawson, 1940 (c). Shows a man in uniform leaning over a record player set up in a desert landscape, a tin helmet is on the ground and some other records lean against the boxes the record player is sitting on. Eric Dawson served in North Africa, Syria, Palestine and the Lebanon, 1940-1945 with 2nd Bn Rifle Brigade, Royal Engineers and the Army Educational Corps. Associated with World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943).
