Crossed short swords above laurel wreath enclosing on the obverse, a shield bearing the arms of Dunkirk over an anchor, on the reverse a disc bearing a classical lamp with smoky flame above inscription ‘Dunkerque 1940’, medal suspended by ring from 36 mm wide ribbon, orange with four red stripes, inner two thicker and four black pin stripes.
