Cup, 1820. Silver, hallmarked London, 1820-1821. Trophy awarded by Sir Charles McCarthy, Sierra Leone Turf Club, 1820. Body of cup is plain bearing inscription, 'BATHURST RIVER GAMBIA/ turf Club 1820/ SWEEPSTAKES FOF HORSE/ of all AGES/ Won by LYRAGH an ARABIAN/ The property of/ HIS EXCELLENCY COLL MAC CARTHY' on one side and on the other, the arms of Sir McCarthy, stag upon a shield surmounted by an arm grasping a crocodile.
