Description
Carbon copy of typescript letter to the War Office from the G.O.C Shanghai Defence Force, dated 12 May 1927. Recommending Capt Christopher Ronald Spear, Indian Army, for the Distinguished Service Order or promotion to Major for his courage during an attack by Cantonese soldiers on the British Consulate at Nanking on 24 March previous. Spear was awarded the Military Cross.
