Collection of 61 papers relating to the Hearsey estates in Sitapur, Oudh, India, 1815-1955. Comprising deeds, mortgages, correspondence, assessments, and the Special Manager’s Diary, 1898-1902 and deeds, mortgages, releases and agreements relating to the Hearsey properties 1815-1955, many in Indian script, and apparently numbered for use in a court case. Includes a ‘List of villages which have been lost by Capt H Hearsey and their Jumas’, Feb 1847; a copy of the will of Miss Clara Georgina Hearsey, Oct 1955; and a copy of the Mahalwar Assessment Statement, Aug 1920. With three letters of Dec 1869- Nov 1896 to L D Hearsey relating to the estates from members of his family; papers relevant to the Hearsey claim to the Pergunna Dhoon villages, 1888; and L D Hearsey’s diary and letter book, Dec 1898-Feb 1902 containing reports on his tours of inspection of estates, and copies of letters to the Deputy Commissioner Sitapur about wells, the collection of taxes, and other matters.
