Ashtray, 1947. Silver, possibly of Indian manufacture, 1947. Associated with the Calcutta Light Horse and the Indian Army. Inscribed, 'DEFENCE NOT DEFIANCE', the whole above the engraved inscription, '1759-1881-1947'. Plain, circular base with raised sides and overhanging lip at top. Set into wooden plywood surround consisting of an eight-pointed star. Upon the back is a brass bound recess for hanging the ashtray on a wall.
