Manuscript note from Sir John Maffey written after the abduction and rescue of Mollie Ellis, Kohat, North West Frontier, 1923. Note on the bottom of the letter appears to be written by D S McKenzie detailing how it was handed to him by Charles Bruce who received it from Sir John Maffey. Molliey Ellis, daughter of Major Ellis, Border Regiment, her mother murdered, was abducted by Afridi tribesmen, Kohat 1923; Mrs Lillian Starr, a medical missionary, and a Pathan search party were sent into the Tirah by High Commissioner Sir John Maffey. Starr was responsible for the successful return of Miss Ellis and she received the Kaiser-i-Hind Medal. From the collection of the Punjab Frontier Force.
