The award of regimental distinctions and honours to mark the Silver Jubilee of the accession of King George V and Queen Mary in 1935 was the subject of much debate, great attention being paid to precedent and regimental tradition. Regiments upon which the distinction of including 'Royal' in their title was conferred had the option of adopting the Royal Blue facings which distinguished such units. The signatory was Viscount Hailsham, Secretary of State for War, 1931-1935.
