Russian Naval Officer’s sword; slightly curved blade, with shallow fuller and finely engraved decoration of trophies of arms; brass knucklebow guard with decorated embellishments and a single brass langet with the cross of St. Anne, which was once coloured red and a Russian inscription reading ‘For Valour’; sword knot tied to crimson ribbon with thin yellow line near each edge; the insignia of the Order of St Anne and inscription show that the owner had been awarded for gallantry, the ribbon of the order was used as a sword strap, and if the officer were decorated a second time it was replaced by a gilt one and termed a ‘Gold Weapon’.
