Recruiting token, 1820 (c); made of bronze; obverse is engraved with a mounted horseman on a prancing horse, he wears a plumed helmet and has a sabre raised over his head, inscribed, ‘HORSE ARTILLERY’; reverse edge is inscribed, ‘WANTED FOR THE EAST INDIES’, centre inscribed, ‘APPLY AT No. 35 SOHO SQUARE LONDON’, with a sunburst at the bottom; associated with the Bengal regiment of Artillery, Horse Brigade; much of the detail on the horseman has worn away.
