The cup is inscribed on one side, ‘Presented in the year 1813 / As a token of Respect by the Officers / non-commissioned Officers and Privates of the / WRITTLE LOYAL VOLUNTEER INFANTRY / to their Commander / CAPTAIN WILLIAM BARLOW. Who on all occasions discharged / the duties of his Office with / Honor and Impartiality’, inscribed verso under a regimental badge, ‘The Corps enroled Augst 1803’.
