Description
Indian silver tankard, made by George Gordon and Co, Madras, 1839. With lid and handle, body of the tankard is segmented, with stylised foliate and floral engraving, the lid is attached by a hinge to the top of the handle. Arthur Edward Brooke (b 1815) presented this tankard to the mess of his regiment, 5th Madras Native Infantry, upon being promoted to the rank of captain in September 1839.
