Description
French 8 mm M1892 revolver, 1895 (c). Presented to Gen Sir John Chapple by Gen Gilbert Forray, 9 Jun 1990 (deactivated). With presentation wooden box. Presented to the Chief of the General Staff, Field Marshal Sir John Chapple by General GIlbert Forray, his French counterpart, in June 1990. Forray (1930-2017) was a veteran of the wars in French-Indochina and Algeria and participated in the Gulf War 1990-1991. The M1892 service revolver, produced by Manufacture d’armes de Sainte-Etienne, was standard issue for French officers in the First World War (1914-1918).
