EX LIBRIS ARTHUR GOOD
pen and ink, drawing
Accession Number

Description
EX LIBRIS ARTHUR GOOD. Pen and ink drawing possibly a design for a bookplate for John William Arthur Good, by Charles R Sykes 1900. This design was later reused by L/Bdr Arthur Good. Design depicts a winged angel holding a torch aloft while sweeping a bare breasted woman off her feet and kissing her. Signed and dated in monogram lower right, ‘CRS 1900’. Given that Arthur Good, later L/Bdr Good, was aged 14 months in 1905, this drawing, made in 1900, must relate to another member of the family with the same name. There is evidence of another name scratched out before ‘ARTHUR’ so it may relate to John William Arthur Good, another member of the family who is presumed to be Arthur Good’s father.
