Lady Nicolls, Wife of Major-General Sir Jasper Nicolls KCB (1778-1849), 1827 (c). Oil on canvas, attributed to Noel Norton Carter (1799-1847), 1827 (c). Half-length portrait, in blue velvet dress and hat. A companion to the portrait of the sitter’s husband. Lady Nicolls died on 2 April 1844 in Rome while on her way back to Britain from India. Her husband was commander-in-chief in India from 1839 until 1843.
