NAM.1965-06-4-1
Tunic, 13th Duke of Connaught's Lancers (Watson's Horse), worn by Maj Kenneth O’Brien Harding, 1915-1921. Blue with scarlet facings. Harding (1894-1967) joined the regiment in 1915. He was awarded the OBE in the 1919 Birthday Honours List and served as ADC to the Governor of the Punjab 1921-23. He resigned his commission in March 1924. Many Indian Cavalry regiments had two full dress uniforms, one as this example, with the British pattern tunic and head-dress, the other as worn by the Indian officers, consisting of kullah, pugri, kurta and lungi. The regiment in which Harding served had been raised in 1858 by Lieutenant Henry Chad Cattley (1834-65) and John (later General Sir John) Watson (1829-1919) as the 4th Regiment of Sikh Irregular Cavalry. Watson’s name had first appeared in its title in 1904 when he was 75 years of age.
