Pair of Royal Cypher GVIR gilt metal Aide-de-camp shoulder badges, 1948 (c). Worn by Dame Mary Tyrwhitt from her appointment as Aide-de-camp in 1948 to Dec 1950, Women's Royal Army Corps. Gilt metal cypher, 'GVIR'. Dame Mary Tyrwhitt (1903-1997) was the last Director of the Auxiliary Territorial Service and Director of the WRAC, 1949-1951.
