Letter of : William Henry Vane, 3rd Earl of Darlington, Durham Supplementary Militia, 24 Feb 1798. Written as Lord Lieutenant of Durham. States that he has, as instructed by royal warrant, ordered out half of the Supplementary Militia of the county to assemble at Durham and then proceed to Hull to join the established militia. He was unable to furnish men with the shoes and stockings specified and wishes to know how he was to act. With draft pencil reply. Possibly from the QMG papers.
