Description

Standard, Governor-General's Body Guard, 1936 (c). Silver crepe-de-chine with silk satin scrolls, silk and metal thread embroidery and fringes. The last record of the Governor General's Body Guard having an official standard occurs in 1845, some years before they ceased to be carried by other regiments of native cavalry. This example, described as a 'New Guidon' in the Regimental Digest of Services, was presented to the Body Guard by Lord Willingdon when he became Viceroy in 1931, and was last carried on his state departure in April 1936.
