Description
Cavalry Officer’s Dress sword, 2nd Life Guards, 1832 (c); blade is straight, flat backed with engraved decoration, including the maker’s name, H Hill, the cypher of the Regiment and the badge of a fiery grenade; three-bar guard, with shell which is decorated with a bursting grenade, as is the pommel which is also set at a slight angle; wooden grip covered with fish skin and bound with silver wire; this illustrates continental influences and the fiery grenade decoration is a reference to the Horse Grenadier Guards which were incorporated into the new Life Guard regiments in 1788.
