Officer's pouch, 37th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, 1870 (c). Black patent leather with badge. The 37th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, were established on 31 March 1860, following fears of a French Invasion. Initially the headquarters were at the local board of works at Holborn, and in the following year moved to the Foundling Hospital. In 1880 the unit was re-numbered 19th and linked with as a Volunteer Battalion to the Rifle Brigade.
