Officer's helmet plate, 45th (Nottinghamshire) (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment of Foot, gilt, 1878-1881.
Mounted upon a Universal pattern backplate (eight-pointed star with bright rays with top point displaced by a frosted Victorian crown) is the Universal pattern frosted laurel wreath and round matt Garter with Garter motto.
The orb ornament on top of the crown is reduced in height and the whole plate is relatively flat.
Mounted within the Garter on very worn black velvet is the Arabic number, '45', in flat burnished gilt sheet metal numerals of rounded style.
Mounted on the wreath at the bottom is a matt silvered scroll with roped edging and wavy notched ends.
Scroll bears in relief the title, 'Sherwood Foresters'.
