Officer's helmet plate, 64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot, gilt, 1878-1881.
Upon the Universal backplate (eight-pointed star with top point displaced by a Victorian crown) with bright rays and frosted crown is mounted a Universal pattern laurel wreath surrounding a round matt Garter with Garter motto, the whole frosted with lettering and other highlights burnished.
Within the Garter on a slightly bombe centre faced with black velvet is the number, '64', in separate slightly bombe gilt Arabic figures.
