Pattern 1881-1901, officer's shoulder belt plate, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), 1881-1902. Rectangular, made of gilt metal and silver and gold and silver. Obverse: on a gilt metal plate with burnished edges a silver eight-pointed rayed faceted star superimposed upon which displacing four of the rays, a silver faceted cross saltire. Centre of the cross, a gilt thistle wreath in which a gilt circlet bearing the motto. Within the circlet a silver representation of St Andrew with his cross upon a frosted gilt ground. Below the wreath a frosted silver scroll divided into two halves and bearing the title, 'Black Watch'. Between the two halves a gilt sphinx. Above the circlet a gilt monarchial crown flanked by a frosted silver scroll bearing the title, 'Royal/ Highlanders'.
