Description
Basket-hilted Cavalry trooper’s sword, Dragoon or Horse Grenadiers 1780 (c). Straight double edged blade, inscribed with the place of manufacture, Solingen the letters ‘M EFECIT’, presumably intended to read ‘ME FECIT’; steel basket guard with flattened bars cut into the form of the cross of St. Andrew, two flattened loops form the stool; round leather grip, bound with twisted wire and a ‘Turks Head’ pommel; general appearance of the sword is that of an early Scottish basket hilted broadsword, the attribution is dubious.
