Mess jacket, 18th Hussars, worn by Maj C J Thackwell, 1894-1918. Blue cloth, light weight trimmed with gold Russian braid. Olivettes down centre front. Captain’s badges of rank (three stars) on shoulder strap. NB this pattern jacket went out in 1904. Major C J Thackswell must have worn it after this date as he did not become a Captain until 1905.
