The Affair of Tortosa Watercolour by unknown artist, 1840 (c). Shows attack on Tortosa (now known as Tartus), Syria by boats of HMS Benbow, 25 September 1840. Inscribed with a quotation from Harrison’s Journal, page 107: ‘young Stewart now brought off poor ... and Maitland with a few small men joined Charlewood on the beach’ Associated with Lt Maitland, Lt Charlewood, Capt Houston Stewart and Syria (1840).
