Binoculars, nd. One of two pairs which belonged to Walter Dorman, who served in the Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War, and in the Home Guard during World War Two. This pair are small and not like any army-issued binoculars. Each portion is short and made of blackened metal with animal skin cover on main section. Ray shades still in place. One of the pairs of binoculars was presented to Dorman as a present from colleagues in the Imperial Yeomanry, but it is not clear which. These are more likely to be the binoculars presented to Dorman. Associated with the Boer War (1899-1902) and World War Two (1939-1945). Dorman served as a Lance Corporal in 102 Coy (Worcester) 5th Bn Inperial Yeomanry in South Africa and was wounded at Trenanfontein on 21 Jan 1902. He attempted to enlist in the army in World War One, but could not as he worked in a reserved occupation. During World War Two he joined the Home Guard, or Home Defence Force, in 1941 and served with it until it was disbanded in 1944.
